What a hidden gem!!! This place was amazing from the minute we walked in, to the service, the food, our waitress and the environment. It's It's casual sports bar type feel, nothing fancy but don't let it fool you. Food is delicious. Some unique items on the menu as well such as fried frog legs and gator bites (cooked fried or blackened). The loaded crab fries are delicious! The value for all this food is just outstanding. Definitely will go back. Worth the stop.
This was a very disappointing experience. The food was unremarkable. The problem was the time we spent there. The dining area was maybe 75% full when the two of us arrived. It was our first time visiting, so we stood at the counter by the menus not knowing what to do. After a few minutes, we were told to sit anywhere but were not given menus. Apparently we were supposed to get them ourselves, but we didn't know that. After 5 minutes or more, we were given menus and our drink order was taken. It took a little while to get the drinks and have our order taken. Then we waited and waited. We waited for our fish sandwich and shrimp meals for approximately 50 minutes!! Other people appeared to be waiting a similar amount of time because nobody came in after us and got their food before us. The place was just incredibly slow and nobody ever apologized for the wait. All this time, we were not even addressed until about the 45-minute mark at which point we were told the food would arrive soon. We ate and then had to wait another 10-12 minutes to get our check and pay. All told we were there for about 1.5 hrs. We just had some fried fish, shrimp and fries. It should not have taken 50 minutes for that to arrive at our table and the other 40 minutes would've been cut down to about 15 in any restaurant with good service. This could have been a 30-40 minute experience at a well-functioning restaurant. At the time of my review, the score is 4.3 stars with 603 reviews. I've never had such a bad experience at a 4+ star place. Needless to say, we won't be back. There are plenty of other seafood places nearby.
If you want the absolute best and freshest seafood, Alex’s at the NCC Farmers Market should be your FIRST STOP. After many years of purchasing his seafood it is the #1 place in Delaware without a doubt. I’ve bought every from shrimp to king crab and my favorite, JUMBO LOBSTER TAILS. As far as pricing goes Alex ‘s seafood is cheaper than any other in Delaware! Most recently Jason pulled eight (8) MONSTER LOBSTER TAILS for me ranging in weight from 1.7 to 2.7 lbs. These tails were so tender you could cut with a fork. Incredible quality and tasted like they just came off the boat. Jason is also quick to share cooking techniques to make sure you have a successful party. My guests were blown away when these tails came out of the oven which they will talk about that dinner for years to come.
I am addicted to the fried shrimp or maybe it's that cocktail sauce. Point is I make it a personal mission to visit this location each and every time I am in town. This is located in a farmers market so the atmosphere is subjective. There is two Alex's in the farmers market. One is next to the produce store ..the other which is the one I love is next to the smoothie and movie store kinda on an end corner (it's the Alex's restaurant with the dining room connected)..besides the shrimp we can also vouch for the crabcakes which are delicious as well.
Food was alright. Sort of bland. I cannot confirm, but I'm pretty sure gratuity was added to our bill (which is fine- I have no quarrels around tipping). However, the server took away the itemized bill and brought the slips to sign with recommended tips. So I couldn't confirm that I had already tipped her as part of the bill and I'm pretty sure we double tipped. (I'd rather overpay than underpay her, but if my suspicion is correct they could be getting a good chunk of extra income).
