Sitka Hotel
What people are saying
Our room wasn’t ready (after being checked in for four hours), staff seemed constantly confused about what was happening, and Ernie’s Saloon next door is apparently quite the late night hang-out so don’t plan on getting any sleep unless you have ear plugs at the minimum. Also, make sure you tell staff that you plan on using the shuttle, otherwise they tell the guy not to come…The place was clean enough, and the location is good, but if you’re going to pay ~$300/night, see if literally anywhere else in town is available first.
This place is located right downtown, within walkable distance to many businesses and by the water. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was baggage storage and shuttle service for free, even before checking in or after checking out! They took care of me, would highly recommend!
DO NOT EAT HERE. The disrespect management displayed to our elders was vile. They call the police, shame & kick out our elderly folks from this restaurant if the elder is just sitting. Some of these elders reside in our beloved eldercare Pioneer's Home, across the street from Sitka Hotel (a well-respected eldercare landmark establishment). The Sitka Hotel restaurant manager publicly posted a picture of an elder, sitting in their wheelchair and shamed the patient on our local Facebook group, asking our community how to remove our elder from their restaurant. This post shows the character of the management & owners. Sitka has always honored our elders; this stems from the Indigenous Tlingit culture that has existed here for 10,000 years. We take care of our elders. We don't shame them and tell them to go away and we certainly don't take pictures, and publicly post them. Sitka Hotel owners and management are NOT LOCAL, and thus, do not embody our culture of caring for our elders. DO NOT EAT HERE.
Checked in and came to my room, no fresh towels. The towels from the last guest were strewn across the floor. Also, trash was left all over the room from the last guest. Called the front desk and nobody was available to help me until the next morning. What an awful experience.
They checked us in, but it turned out the room hadn't been cleaned. We took a 90-minute walk around town and came back, and it still wasn't ready! At 3 pm, the girl at the front desk announced that her shift was over and left, and the new person on duty said she'd never been informed about the rooms not being cleaned. She said that apparently the staff walked off the job in a dispute with management, and so she called in a cleaning crew who got the rooms ready by 4:30. The next morning, we went down for the "continental breakfast" at 6:45 a.m., and nobody was at the desk. At 6:55 somebody showed up and set out cold cereal, pop tarts, and coffee, and that was it. We walked down the street to Wild Flour for a hot breakfast, which I recommend. The room was OK once it was prepped, but nobody seemed to care that things weren't getting done.
