Rock Bottom Books
What people are saying
I went to Rock Bottom Comics for the first time today as I’m new to the area and looking for cool spots to find anything comic/anime related. When I walked in I asked if they had a public restroom I was informed they didn’t and responded “no problem”. I started to explore the store when I saw the guy at the front watching me walk around making me very uncomfortable, I moved around to look at the next section and he was walking near me so I moved to the next section and was looking at a few Gundam that were there, seeing that I’m interested in Gundam I asked him a question about where to find them because it’s hard for me to get my hands on any sets to build. He gave me a hostile answer and at this point I felt cornered so I tried to work my way past him by saying “excuse me” and he said “you can walk the other way”. I left the store because he was so rude to me. They seem to have an excellent selection of comic books as well as many cool items, I would’ve loved to look around a little more but felt incredibly uncomfortable being followed around and talked to in a rude manner. Store 10/10 Customer Service 1/10 unfortunately
In the spirit of supporting small businesses, I was going to check and see whether this store has any EC Comics material, i.e., the “Tales from the Crypt” archive reprints that were released a few years ago. Judging on the reviews relating to the owner’s customer service, however, it seems I’m better off looking elsewhere.
Ridiculously expensive!! But, the bigger issue, the owner IS INCREDIBLY RUDE! He apparently hates children, he follows kids around the store screaming at them, he yells at his staff members in a degrading and humiliating way, and generally treats customers as if they’re bothering him… Just a small business tip for somebody obviously suffering from Peter Pan Syndrome, if you’re going to own a toy/comic store and deal in kids merchandise, you probably shouldn’t hate children - their parents won’t support your store if you’re a “grumpy old man”.
I used to collect comics but stopped years ago. Slowly getting back into it, this place has a ton of back issues and all the new comics including all the variant covers. Owner was nice and knowledgeable recommended several other books based on the books I bought. Would give the place 10 stars if I could!
the guy is rude and condescending. He's gotten worse over the years. sometimes he loses business and calms down for a bit then right back to it again. has a smart mouth. I think he has a brother that lives in Minnesota named steve. I swear the guy is exactly like Allen. I will however have mixed feelings when the store closes. I had good memories of the place when Wilda owned it. .If some poor sap even entertained the idea of buying that store you bet your bottom dollar ol Allen would say its worth a million 5. I think he just barely makes it because he gets retirement from the navy. so be prepared for some snarky comments and an act of superiority. dont even think about trying to sell or trade to him either. if YOU like paying 7 to 10 dollars for a non incentive cover than this is the store for you. comics are already expensive enough but this store raises the prices of just a plain cover a b or c if the owner thinks its going to be a popular book or cover. customers would do better to shop somewhere else.
