Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad
What people are saying
Although there was no freight running the day that we visited and there were no passenger excursions running the day that we visited, staff members allowed us on the property so we could take some photographs. This seems like a very friendly place with some nice passenger excursion trips!
Attended their first New Year's Day dinner train ride with my 4 year old grandson. The excursion was sold out ahead of time and lasted about 2 hours. Included pork & saurercrout, mashed potatoes, corn, salad & applesauce, roll & butter, choice of 3 different desserts, coffee & soda. Water in glass stemware & all tableware actual dishes & flatware. No booster seats on board. Was warned bathroom on train might not be functional for the trip. Restroom in gift shop available for before & after trip. The server, conductor, mechanics, and engineers are all volunteers. All professionally dressed. Had pictures taken with the conductor. The server: she did accept tips. Downside was there were no activities for my grandson (little peg boards come to mind). We played I Spy and Guess the Object (he closed he eyes & felt object in his hands & guessed what it was). We also counted the flowers in the vase & the number of the different colored sugar packets.
Great value! Had a wonderful trip on the ice cream sundae ride. The ice cream was super generous and delicious. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a fun activity with a preschooler.
We went on the Santa’s Surprise train ride with our 8 and 2 year old children and had a great time! During the first half Santa came by and gave each child a stuffy, a live musician played a couple songs on the accordion, and Santa came back to take pictures. During the second half the accordion player came again and we went to the food car where we got snacks, hung out with Santa, and took pictures at the North Pole photo op they had. We also enjoyed looking out at the trees and creek while the 2 year old took a nap. The whole trip was about 1hr45min, everyone was really friendly and we had a nice time. It was perfect for our kids’ first train ride!
We did the Milk & Honey Express ride today and it was so nice! The history of the line was very interesting to listen to and it was a beautiful scenic little trip along the Swatara creek. The staff were all extremely friendly as well.
