A walkable grocery store is one of the the things I love about Middletown—this Karns is in an old shoe factory and is really historically fascinating: you can even spot the old safe by the back automatic door! Grocery wise, they always have exactly what I want—the selection isn’t as broad as a larger grocery store, but it covers all the staples you might need to cook most everything. The cashiers are always very personable and relatable, and the meats, as mentioned by others, are fantastic. They stock things seasonally, too—currently have sidewalk snow salt and shovels ready for people who might need them!

Just got home, and found out all these mussels are all dead. It got so bad smell! Called the store, compliant about it, but can't be refund if I don't bring it back. I will take have to drive there at least 50 minutes back and forth to get my $7.5 back. If is not bad, 😕 I will not call for it. I have always shopped karns and mainly because of the meat department, two weeks ago they had no steak and no meat cuttet, today i was told i could not get 1/4 inch steak which i have been purchasing from karns for years. Not all people love thick steak. If i have to go to giant for meats then that's where i shop for everything sorry tell your meat department to care about your customer loss.

Pretty good selection. Great hot bar and prepared (in store) refrigerated meals & sides. Better meat than most local stores.

It's fairly quick and competitively priced compared with other grocery stores. The physical location is a bit older so there is a lingering smell that's hard to get rid of, but overall things seem to be clean. The staff has always been incredibly polite and helpful.
