On a trip to my land in the far west corner of Jeff Davis County, I stopped and stayed at the hotel for a quick trip. I had been wanting to stay there for a while, and finally, the opportunity presented itself. The lobby and restaurants were so neat and well-decorated, creating a sweet atmosphere from the outside in. The clerk had a few stories about the old hotel. I was traveling with my family, and although we only stayed for one night, it was a memorable experience. The room, while a bit small, was cozy and clean, providing us with everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The bed was comfortable, and the amenities were good for our short visit. Front desk helped me out with a toothbrush after I had lost mine. What truly stood out during our stay was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Their professionalism and warm hospitality made a significant impact on our overall experience. Despite the room being a bit small, we had a fantastic stay. The quality of service, the charming ambiance, and the attention to detail left us thoroughly impressed. We couldn't think of anything else that would have made our stay better. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a delightful and comfortable place to stay in Van Horn, or on your way to Marfa or Big Bend County. Overall, our quick one-night stay was perfect, and we look forward to returning in the future for a longer visit.

Didn't spend the night, just dinner and drinks. The food was great, but a little pricier than expected. Still good, though. All hotel staff members that I encountered, particularly in the bar/restaurant, were very personable and attentive. They even gave us a little ghost tour. Cool historical hotel with a very laid back vibe. I'll be staying here next time I'm in Van Horn

Wonderful two queen room in a fantastically restored old style hotel. Beds very comfy with the right amount of support. Pillows were great, a variety of firm or squishy to make anyone happy. Shower was amazing and the bathroom really cute with classic black and white tiles and very clean. Excellent thick soft towels as well. Room had a microwave and a mini fridge too. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was tasty, but a little slower service than we would have liked, but the waitress and everyone there was clearly working their butts off, so I totally understand. Van Horn is clearly a town where few live and lots of people travel through so the surrounding area is pretty depressed. The hotel El Capitan is a beacon of comfort, beauty and history.

We stopped here on a cross country road trip with absolutely no expectations. I found it by googling a last minute place to stay. I was a little nervous, because it is a bit of the freeway, and not a "known chain." Oh my gosh am I happy Google sent us here! This place is an absolute gem! You feel as though you are waking back in time but I'm a good way. The hotel itself is historic with a lovely story. The staff, from reception to people you cross in the hallways and garden could not be more gracious and friendly. The rates are very reasonable. I slept the best I have in the two weeks we've been traveling. We will absolutely be returning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel El Capitan. It feels as though you've walked into an oasis. It is a beautiful, elegant historic building with modern amenities. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are pristine. We are dinner in the restaurant on a very busy night, but the service was still impeccable. My half chicken was delicious, and my husband enjoyed his steak. Margaritas were served up with a smile and were super delicious. Next morning our complimentary breakfast was a buffet including everything you could need. My waffle was in the shape of Texas. It must be dog friendly because I saw three of them. We recommend! The only thing that took one star away was that the remote to the television did not work. But other than that it was lovely.
