Hilton Garden Inn State College
What people are saying
Rooms were clean and modern. The amenities included a restaurant and a bar. Food was very good but most of all, the staff was quite great. Especially the front desk. If I visit Penn State again, this is where I am staying.
Avoid the first floor rooms. Lobby is on the second floor. Pool and gym are on the first floor which is party below the grade of the ground. So the first floor rooms are in what amounts to the basement. My room first smelled strongly of pool, which faded to must and basement as I acclimated. For one night on the road it was fine. It’s an older property which has had a cosmetic update. The staff clearly maintains it as well as they can. Just avoid the sub terrain rooms. Shower was very slow to drain and there was some mold and paint damage from the moisture of being in a basement. Digital key never loaded. Landscape crew blasted my car with grass as well. The perfect departure gift. 😞
Great location if you are visiting someone at Penn State. It's very close to campus and downtown State College. Rooms are clean. The hotel was quite even over a holiday weekend. Service was good.
We have been staying here since 2018 when my oldest daughter began at Penn State, from the onset we met this amazing front desk supervisor Kendra Spring. Each time we came to State College we chose to stay at this location solely due to Kendra and her making our stay as comfortable as possible. Kendra exuded professionalism and a warmth that made you feel welcomed. Imagine my dissatisfaction when I found out that Kendra had left to go to another hotel in town. We overlooked the outdated decor in the rooms, the carpets that need to be ripped out and the air conditioning that never went below 70. My hope is to find Kendra and follow her to where ever she has gone as I am sure she is running a great hotel. If there is one thing in business that you learn is to take care of good employees, Hilton failed in this respect.
The hotel is a little outdated, and could use a refresher. It’s just a few minutes from the campus, so it’s convenient. I tried to find a place to park in town, but most spots are reserved. My frustration lead me back to the hotel where I , grudgingly, decided to have dinner. I could not have been more surprised. Mercato Mio was pretty amazing. My bartender made a true Olde Fashioned. The Nonnas meatballs were very good, and the Nonnas Chicken was a new favorite dish. With my anger towards a town that obviously does not like visitors, I at least found a welcome spot in the hotel.
