Dead Horse Ranch State Park
What people are saying
We stayed at a cabin. As a family of 5 i was worried about fitting into a single cabin. We fit comfortablely. Mom and dad in the queen (the description says full when you book it but its a queen), 2 kids on the bunks and 1 kid on a cot that i brought with us. The AC worked amazing especially in the 105 degree weather. The cabins are covered in trees and shade so the area was much cooler than at the lagoon. The bathrooms include a shower and was clean. There is a river a short 2 min walk from the cabins. The kids loved it. We went fishing and played at the park at the lagoon.
Park had many easy hiking trails. We enjoy the Lime Kiln trail the most, it is unshaded so we prefer it early in the morning. Nice hike along the Verde River is shaded . Fishing in the ponds is allowed . Playground appears adequate, though not spectacular. Horseback riding is available for a fee. Restrooms are clean, dogs are welcome. Campgrounds are very nice also.
Plenty of room, nice pull through for our 38' toy hauler. Baths were a nice bonus. Electric and water, dump station as you leave. We rode to Honanki Heritage on our sxs. Camp is close to Cottonwood and only about 15 min to Jerome. We visited Gold King Ghost Mine. If you love old cars, trucks and equipment, you will like the Gold King. The campground is a good place for families, kids were riding their bikes around camp, but we're quiet. Swimming close by at the lagoon.
Had a great night at Red tailed hawk loop here. Pricing is fair and the amenities are fantastic. Water at each site, fire pit and grill both, bathrooms are exceptional, and there are plenty of things to do. Hiking, horse rides, fishing. We had a great time and will definitely be back if we are in the cottonwood area. Friendly staff too.
Lots to see and do....just wish this was not fully booked from the retirement community that hunkers down for two weeks at a time.....as this is a great outdoor playground for families that are only looking to enjoy for a few nights. There are endless trails, lagoons and a river. Great place for bringing bikes and fishing.
