To anchorage?? It’s a long trip. 12 hours. If I were to do it again, I would make some stops along the way. But that’s on me and not the railroad. Rode the aurora train down. Scott was out main... well... train dude guy. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and told us some great stories about growing up in Alaska. The train depot process was well stream lined, and made for an excellent trip. Highly recommend.
Not only is riding the train a great experience but the depot is nice with clean restrooms and ample free parking. The model train set that is open to view each morning from 7 to 8 is really neat to see.
Very clean, modern, interesting train station with a large functioning model railroad in its own separate room. This is a great start to a scenic train excursion.
We took a train ride from Talkeetna to Fairbanks and it was fantastic! Wonderful views and scenery, and the fact they had a dining car that served local craft beer, helped the time fly by! Friendly and informative staff also helped point out specific landmarks and scenic views along the way, which helped make sure we did not miss a thing! I would definitely ride again!
In early September, I got on a regular car from Denari Park Depot to Anchorage. There were relatively few passengers in the car, and the observation car was also empty. The view from the train window and the scenery changed so wonderfully that I never got bored while riding. Unfortunately, on a cloudy day, I couldn't see Mount Denali from the train window. Still, it is a car window scenery that can be fully satisfied. Of particular note is the canteen car. The windows open up to the high ceiling and the feeling of opening is wonderful. A relaxing lunch while watching the changing yellow leaves landscape was the best moment. When you get on the Alaska Railway, you should have lunch and / or dinner in the canteen car. The person who was in the car tweeted. “Greater than the Bernina Express!” I think that's true. If you are a railroad enthusiast or not, this is a train you would like to get on.
