White Sands National Park is a unique and breathtaking destination. The park's primary feature is its stunning white gypsum sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a surreal and otherworldly landscape. The vast expanse of white sand is mesmerizing, with dunes constantly shifting and changing shape due to the wind. The natural beauty of this place is unparalleled. Visitors can explore the dunes by hiking, sledding, or simply walking along the designated trails. The park offers a sense of serenity and peace, making it a perfect spot for photography and stargazing (I did not spend a night here), or just enjoying the quiet beauty of nature. However, it's important to be prepared for intense heat during the summer months. Temperatures can soar, and there is little shade on the dunes. Visitors should bring plenty of water, wear sun protection, and plan their activities for the cooler parts of the day to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit. Water is not available once you enter the park, bring more water than you think you need... you will need it. Especially during the summer. Overall, White Sands National Park is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates natural wonders and stunning landscapes.

Absolutely surreal. You can enter the park at 7AM in the summer time and I highly recommend getting there as early as possible. We were sweating a bunch by 9AM in July and it was barely over 80F. It surprised us as we are used to hot weather in Texas. Bring more water than you think you need.

Beautiful views! Fun for the whole family. One of the best experiences is sliding down the dunes. It gets hot so arrive early enough (gate opens at 7 AM) with sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and lots of water.

Loved it, returned to visit with family after 20 plus years. Many great improvements. Well maintained restroom facilities and shaded picnic tables. Better trails, asphalted entryway. Visitors Center very informative. Purchased Access Pass at Dunes Gate, great deal for the price. Plus Access to other locations included. Overall had a great time. Beautiful sunset over the distant mountains. Was planning to camp out but sites are currently unavailable due to upgrades. Would definitely recommend to all.

Completely mind blown. I didn't quite know what to expect going in, but I couldn't have fathomed this experience. What an awe inspiring place! The dunes are a blast to play on. The area wasn't crowded (late May), and the temp wasn't unbearable. The sand isn't normal sand, which meant it didn't stick to everything. Kids rolled around in it and played, but it just brushed right off. Great for the car!
