Great location for a hardware store. Wonderful place to pick up needed home and lawn maintenance supplies while downtown. Nice selection of hardware and tools from small to large. Easier to shop than the big box stores and the prices are comparable. 😉

I have never experienced such poor customer service in my entire life. The owner was nasty and rude. It appears spending $5 in their store is not worth their time. Here’s my story, I have always tried to support our local businesses by shopping downtown whenever I can. I was working on a project at home and needed some larger bolts to complete my work. Off I went to my local True Value to purchase the bolts. I wasn’t sure about the size I needed, so I brought along a bolt and gave it to one of their associates to get what I needed. After purchasing 8 bolts, I headed back home to complete my project. Needless to say, the bolts didn’t work and I had to go back to the store. This time the owner came up and I explained what happened. He went to retrieve the correct bolts for me. It was at this time he must have gotten a case of senility because he couldn’t remember where to put four of the wrong bolts back in there place. All I wanted to do was exchange the wrong bolts that were given to me by his associate, no more, no less. Since the owner couldn’t remember where to put the bolts back, he wanted me to purchase them. He wanted an additional $2 for his senility. I disagreed with this. He became loud and rude and said he didn’t need my business and I could go somewhere else. He was so loud and out of control that his wife came from the back to try and calm him down. At this point, the wife took over the conversation with me. This is what she said “ We have been here for 48 years and I have never seen him like this. When you purchase bolts, you cannot return them because we do have the manpower for this. She says there a sign up in the area. Mind you, I’m not looking for no sign when all I want to do is get back home to complete my project. They returned my $4.32. I went down to Home Depot and got 10 bolts for $2.22. It turned out to be a win, win for me. Somewhere along the 48 years in business True Value in Aiken, SC on Lauren Street has lost their way with customer service. I cannot see them being in business another 48 years. I will never step foot into that store again.

Although prices a bit high on some things in store as most true values are. The customer service is impeccable here. I found that they are very straight forward & honest about products & repairs. Thank you!

BUYER BEWARE: True Value located on Laurens St does not hold up to their business. I bought a $30 car key with the fob and brought it to them to have it cut. The gentlemen cut the key wrong on one side so I decided to go back and speak to the manager in hopes of getting my money back. The manager told me they do not guarantee keys that are provided by the customer and was very rude and did not care that my $30 key fob was ruined.

They always have just what we need. It's a very convenient location downtown. The whole staff is extremely helpful. They even gave me packets of ketchup when I needed it! That's local service!
