Super 8 by Wyndham Ashland
What people are saying
Easily the worst motel we've ever stayed in... We called ahead of time to make sure that the suite had 2 sleeping areas because of snoring issues, and were assured that there were. We got there and were told that the sofa couch is basically not "sleepable". We checked it out and he was absolutely correct. His only apology was that he would waive the cancellation fee if we wanted to go elsewhere. There were no hotel rooms left in town at that point, let alone ones with separate sleeping areas. We ended up having to book two rooms & could not get adjoining doors. When we entered the first room, it was still dirty and had not been made up from the last guest. And in the second room the air conditioning only worked intermittently. We went back to the front desk and he moved us back to the suite that we originally purchased, plus charged us the same price to have a regular room next to it. There were bulbs missing and/or out, the exhaust fan sounded like a freight train, the fabric on the furniture was completely threadbare, the carpet was stained, and one of the two rooms had a door that had to be yanked closed or it would not shut. I know that it's only a Motel 8, but even a modest hotel should be better than this..... WOULD NEVER GO BACK!
We've stayed here a handful of times in the last 15 years and always been happy. This time the staff is still friendly, the room clean and the bed as comfortable as one that isn't my own can be. However this was tempered by a general sense of wear and age. It's only in small things, nothing major: the door handle into the bathroom is loose, the landscape is full of weeds... We will still stay here the next time we're in Ashland though.
The staff was very friendly and competent, but the rates were a little high compared to other local hotels. While the rooms were clean, the hotel is getting close to needing renovation. Everything was functional in our room, but the outlets weren't conveniently accessible. The mattress was not the most comfortable, and there were only two pillows provided. The linens were clean, but again, dated. The continental breakfast was a little skimmer than other hotels in the area, severely lacking in the protein department. All in all, I would recommend other hotels over this one.
Staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. Room was neat and tidy. Although night temperatures went down to mid-30s F, we didn't need to turn on the heater. Breakfast was plentiful. Only downside: hot water dispenser had coffee-tasting water (horrible for a tea drinker!).
Whats sad about this review is I often stay at Super 8s and that I stayed in the same hotel for week in April on business. I really enjoyed it, which is why I came back. My room and the hall was clean, and I had good internet, but tonight when I went in there there were over 30 dark pet stains on the carpet of the room. The hall was just as bad. It was disgusting! I took a picture of it and even the desk clerk thought it was disgusting. Worse yet, I had zero internet and she said they were having problems getting internet to the back HALF of the building. She added the manager made some change it caused the problem. ((The clerk was very nice and apologetic) I don't know what's going on with the management here but it needs to be replaced along with thier modems and carpets...
