South Town Pie
What people are saying
We consider ourselves pizza connoisseurs (we've toured all the major pizza places in NY and CT) so when we saw South Town was a top Seattle pizza place in the newspaper we had to try it. Sorry to say didn't really live up to our expectations. Its an attempt at a NY slice style which falls short, dough is bland and crust is way too thick. To their credit the pizza was cooked well, nice char and superior toppings. We had slices for lunch which were good served on the spot. We took a pepperoni pizza home (only 1 size) and it's just not as good the longer it sitting around. Best to eat right away and not re-heat. It's an ok lunch stop if you're in the area but wouldn't go out of my way again.
Got takeout here and it wasn't good unfortunately - first they gave us the wrong pie - it happens so no real issue here - and they remade it with no fuss. But the actual pizza had huge chunks of onion that hadn't really been cut well, very little sauce, and the dough didn't have any taste / color. Seems like a nice place with hardworking people but the pizza sadly doesn't measure up. We didn't dine in but the ambiance was cool.
The pies could use more sauce and/or more robust flavor in the sauce that is present. Its a fairly dry pizza. A good sauce would also add more salt to the pie. The slice sizes are priced well. The crust is very well made. The server/bartender took care of us after a mishap.
I ordered a meatball sandwich. It arrived devoid of any type of sauce. I finally broke down and asked for some but had to wait about ten minutes for it to arrive. The meatballs were interesting. They were tough and dry. They had been heavily seasoned with what looked to be fresh oregano plus other herbs/spices. They really needed the red sauce to moisten them up. The service was spotty. The main issue was not enough checking back. The staff may have had too many people to serve. Stick with the pizza!
Always good newyork style pizza. i order online custom pizza & they make it great! everythingbagel-flavored seasoning on the crust is chefs kiss! I go here alot of Fridays, never a problem except the parking lot being full
