Perry's Cafe
What people are saying
Love the decor of this diner; reminds me of an old-school, regular diner. Not the most Instagrammable place, but it brings out nostalgic feelings. Our server was friendly and efficient. We could tell that she was busy (it was packed and she had lots of tables to take care of), but she refilled our waters without us even asking and came back a few times to check on us if we needed anything. The portion here is big and I love it! I got the biscuit and gravy and it's good. Nice, hot biscuits smothered in thick gravy. The frittatas look good; have to come back next time for that.
Found Perry's Cafe while lost near Old Town San Diego. It's kind of a dive from the exterior and the interior is really dated. However it was clean and no foul odors. Perry's is primarily a breakfast place and the plates I saw on tables while walking to the table looked delicious. So I ordered lunch, a club sandwich. It was huge. Made with thick bacon and real sliced turkey, not the deli kind. Everything about this sandwich was very delicious. The server was excellent. Nothing beats a good server. She made the meal a memory.
I have driven past this place for decades, always thinking "this place must be good, it's always busy." Took the plunge and visited for breakfast, and our decision to do so was spot on. As soon as I walked in I could tell the food would be good given the amazing smell. We were quickly seated and a server approached with utensils and my cup very soon had fresh brewed coffee. Had a hard time choosing what to have for breakfast, the menu is quite extensive. Decided on chicken fried steak, two over easy eggs, and hash browns. Food came quickly and coffee flowed without skipping a beat. My son ordered french toast with a side of scrambled eggs and bacon. Both meals were abundant. We left very satisfied and agreed to return to sample other delicious food (possibly a frittata)
Very delicious food, very tasty and fresh , friendly staff members, Christina was my server, the best service ever. She was nice and attentive if my family and I needed more coffee or salsa.
Update** So sad that it is closing. So we had to go back one last time. Delicious as ever. I hope they reopen at a new location. 🤷🏻♂️ Great old school diner. It's busy but they seem to get people in and out pretty quick. I recommend the chicken fried steak breakfast. Pretty tasty. 😛 *** Update *** went back today and had the smoke pork chop breakfast. Super delicious !!! My wife had huevos rancheros , very generous portions . 😋 .
