Old Town San Diego State Historic Park
What people are saying
There are some nice places within Old Town, but it's a little bit hit and miss. Some of the places are a touristy and have the same stuff over and over again from store to store. It reminds me of being on a touristy boardwalk in a way. But, some of the shops are quite nice and have original things. I particularly appreciated the shops that have a historical theme to them. I do love the Leather Depot store the most. They have some great leather items that are very reasonably priced. There is a free parking lot if you get there early enough you should be able to find a spot. The spots are quite tight so don't bring the big car if you can help it. There are plenty of restrooms, although they are not very clean. The floors are rather gross. Some of the eateries are very lively with music, while others are fairly boring with a kind of quiet vibe. I feel the whole area could have been more fun with the addition of at least a quiet music background.
I loved it here - so much history, and many vendors. Some shops had similar items, but many of them were unique. I appreciated them all. People very friendly, food was plenty. There were many tour groups, families, kids of all ages. Yes, touristy area, but there were still so many authentic connections, I didn't mind.
We really enjoy walking around the old Town in San Diego. They have alot to see and you can go inside the buildings free. They have alot of shops and people there are dressed up in that era. The only downside is that they don't open on Sundays some of the buildings.
Lovely walkable historic town with lots of shops and food options. Lots of culture...architecture, clothes, candy, trinkets and food. I believe there are also some tours available. Very crowded and tourist-driven...particularly on the weekends. Parking can be a bit tough in the immediate area and main lots...but there is a large lot near the Hilton Garden Inn on Rosecrans and Sunset streets where you can park on weekdays after 5pm and on weekends for free. Stroller-friendly.
Old Town San Diego is a delightful place to visit. The historic buildings are beautifully kept, giving the area a charming, old-world feel. The shops are fun to explore, and the food is great. The only downside was the restrooms—they were pretty filthy. But overall, the beauty and atmosphere of Old Town San Diego made it a wonderful experience.
