O'Bryant Square
What people are saying
It has lots of seating to eat your lunch. If you're lucky, you can watch someone performing. Unfortunately, it didn't really have much nature and the fountain doesn't seem to work.
The square was brand new when I moved to Portland in the 70s. At that time it all seemed very new and pleasant. I certainly hope that the entire block is demolished and a city park that is visible from all sides will replace it. One only needs to look at First Presbyterian Church to see how underground parking can leave and attractive surface area on the street level. The mechanized pigeonhole parking structure across the street was hideous and fascinating at the same time.
It was alright. I grabbed some pineapple fried chicken from a food cart nearby and wanted somewhere peaceful to eat. There were some younger people drinking here behind me that made me uncomfortable. I mean, it's downtown Portland, but still. I don't even know if these people were of age to be drinking. Loud and boisterous. I kept my backpack on my back the whole time I ate and avoided eye contact at all costs. A nice spot, probably just sat in the wrong place.
Lots of foodtrucks competing for customers so sharp prices. Very good for backpackers so I'm a happy man. Some places have an "everything for $7 menu". Also $5 meals for sale.
This Park dedicated in the seventies features a fountain in the shape of Portland's city flower, a rose 🌹. This Park is popular for lunch during the week, many places to sit. On the weekend a free lunch is offered served mid-day. During inclement weather the lunch is served in the parking building beneath the park.
