The area surrounding the mansion is beautiful! There are scenic trails that have beautiful and historic vegetation. You can find plants from the 1800s and check out the different gardens they have. The trees look healthy and there is plenty to see. A great place to take pictures. They do an amazing job keeping it all clean and ask that you do the same during your visit.

Great place for a family day out. Well-kept gardens, small zoo & farm animal area. Donations accepted but no admission fee. Great walks, or just find a nice spot under an ancient tree. Check their website for special holiday events!

Beautiful estate. The views and hills are beautiful. However, sadly, the Italian and Japanese gardens were not kept. The pond in the Japanese garden was green, smelled in some areas near the water, and all the koi fish were gone. Italian garden was sad, looking barely any rose bushes. The tomb surrounding grounds had overgrown grass and weeds.

This place is absolutely gorgeous. We were a little bummed we couldn’t go inside, but the property and outside of the house are amazing. We visited the Japanese and Italian gardens and had a great time exploring the area. We saw so many turtles, which was really cool. If we lived here I would definitely do photo shoots here. We saw a lot of photographers doing that! I’m glad we got to visit here and would definitely come back if we came to visit Virginia again!

In March, I’ll give it a 4/5. I’m sure in full spring and summer it is stunning. It’s got a public restroom and huge public parking lot. Many water fountains are not running, and the ponds are drained. Flowers blossomed in the Italian garden. The Japanese garden’s pond awaits maintenance. Great park overall!
