Good experience living here, moved here with a rental special, no regrets, management it’s good and accommodating when needed. Maintenance it’s very efficient, some of the concierge are good with the exception of the night lady who is more time away than at the front desk. Plus side, The building it’s better maintained than most buildings in the area given its age. The down side, utilities are ridiculous, we tested out by being out for 3 weeks and still got a $250+ bill for a one bedroom unit. I confirmed this is a equity(management) issue and not a building issue itself. Given the new buildings in the area are really small in Sq ft vs price, this is still a good option, just be aware utilities will add at least $300 more for 1 bedroom regardless of usage.
I lived at Marlowe Apartments for 1 year. While I did enjoy the easy connection (all inside) to the metro, there is a lot of room for improvement from the leasing/ management office. Pros: Miranda at the front desk is great! She is such a joy to see everyday. Maintenance is wonderful as well and very responsive. Cons: Haley Mostoff in the leasing office will always somehow "lose" your email in her spam and will be unresponsive. The elevator's suck and management will not apologize or compensate for negative events. I was stuck in an elevator for 20 min with no one at the front desk and management not responding. When I emailed Haley, I did not hear back for a month, with barely an apology or any compensation for the dangerous situation they placed me in. They will charge you an insane fee at the end of move out and claim that they will reimburse you after you move out. I cannot stress this enough, if you lease with them DO NOT do autopay. I was able to find out that they were going to overcharge me by thousands of dollars and it took back and forth between me and the leasing office to clarify. I ended up not having to pay the fee. But, this is a predatory practice that they do.
The maintenance staff and front desk reception are the only redeeming part of living here. The leasing office is the absolute worst. Very unresponsive especially when things go wrong. The building has constant plumbing issues, they are constantly shutting off the water with very little notice. Things are constantly under construction. Don't apply for an apartment facing the highway side, the giant lightbulbs from the main entrance go right into the bedroom windows and the plastic slatted curtains provide no coverage. A lot of residents end up just covering the window all together with a tarp. There are persistent smell of weed even though it's a non smoking building and depending on which side of the building your on it can be pretty bad but consider yourself lucky if you're not affected. When you are having issues with your apartment Haley from the leasing office will pretend she never got your emails. During the summer the hallways get wet with water dripping from the cealing or the floor. The elevators need repair taking a long time to arrive having troubles with the door closing or opening. Living here has been a hot mess all around. Almost to the end of my lease they charged me for apartment insurance which I've had the whole time and I wasn't even called or contacted by the leasing office. I have been living here for almost two years now and thing have gone from bad to worse. The renovations are also never ending and they don't seem to care about the impact on the residents. The leasing office is only attentive until you sign the lease.
I lived here for about a year and a half and would not recommend it to anyone else. The building regularly has water issues that require full day water shut offs, as well as power failures. The apartments are the not well maintained and the appliances fail. The front desk and maintenance staff are great, but the leasing office is incompetent and difficult. They asked me for proof of renters insurance (which I repeatedly provided) again and again without updating their records. Most of all, they are trying to charge us an arm and a leg in move out fees including for maintenance issues we reported before moving out, dust, and the outside of windows being dirty. Don't get scammed there is a ton of new construction in Crystal City with comparable rents. Update: I'm amending my review to 1 star because in addition to the unreasonable cleaning fee, I am being charged for carpet replacement, even after I paid Marlowe extra at move out to have the carpets professionally cleaned. They tried to charge me for the carpet being dirty. I told them to take it up with the cleaning service if they were dissatisfied with the results, then I was refunded the carpet cleaning fee and charged 4 times the cleaning fee for the full replacement. I received an email that confirms they did not even try to clean the carpet before replacing it. In addition, the leasing office was aggressive and very rude when I emailed my concerns. If you already live there, don't bother paying for the "easy move-out" they will take your money and charge you more anyways.
The BEST apartment I have ever experienced. The management team is the best I have seen, very very nice people (especially Miranda, Marybelle and Haley), quick responce, quick maintenance, quick package pick-up. The Marlowe Apartment is also in the center of everything. Metro is just beneath the building, Costco, Amazon Fresh, Wholefoods and all kinds of restaurants are just around the conner. Parking is nicely under the building and you can just take the elevator directly up to your apartment, no walking at all. Great community. We smile and say “have a good one” every time we meet the neighbor :). The party room is also beautiful, I held a birthday party there once and it was fantastic. The apartment unit is very smart, you can control the air con and door lock using the app (never forget your room key again!) I love the plan of my apartment, the windows in the bedroom are also extraordinary. Wooden floor is beautiful. The balcony is my favourite too. Kitchen is nice and pretty. The washer and dryer are a bit small but they are fine. Overall I love my apartment unit! Just one little thing to improve if possible. The parking garage floor is quite dirty, it would be nice if the floor can be cleaned a bit. Other than that, everything is perfect, 99.9% perfect!
