Leslie E. Tassell Park
What people are saying
I stopped here a while ago and saw the damn but didn't have time to walk around . Definitely worth the spot.. There is a path by the river full of stone steps and little private areas by the river to take pictures of have a picnic or fish.. There is a water splash area for the kiddos a beautiful pavilion with free Wi-Fi and an overlook dock you can fish off... Tons of cute little chipmunks who seem to know kids drop food lol... And picnic tables scattered amongst the shade.. Around the corner is an ice cream shop that is a perfect grab before your river walk in a hot.. Highly recommend little get away
Cute park with just enough walking distance to keep you busy for a bit. Lately as of spring/summer 2024, some trees are overgrown and need some hedging and trimming. some branches hanging low into sidewalks. Overall a great park. There is a water feature floor fountain that can be played in, but the water pressure is much too high for most anyone to enjoy. Not sure if it's more intended to be an art piece, but trying to also be a mini splash pad. Overall decent park to walk through.
Gorgeous park along the Thornapple river that is great for all ages! It is a relatively small park, but there is tons to look at! Wildlife, wildflowers, a huge dam and much more! There were a few people having lunch when we visited and it would definitely be a good spot for a picnic. There are plenty of benches and covered seating. You can also fish from here if you have a permit!
Great park with Cascade Dam in view. Beautiful nature area. Calm & quiet with beautiful bronze statues. Loved it here.
A fantastic family-friendly spot with beautiful gardens & a touch of Thornapple River history thrown in. This location was previously a residence & Leslie E. Tassel generously provided this space for the community. Restrooms and covered picnic spots make this place ideal for parties. There is also a fire pit ring down by the water. There is a dam on the river here; you can occasionally watch as they raise & lower the stops for the water. There are lovely bronze sculptures: one of children playing ring around the rosy, and one of a grandpa telling his grandson the size of a fish. Sculptural water display acts as a splash pad for the kids! They love it! There are some great fishing spots here. TIP—> bring lightweight plastic cups for the kids to set on top of the water spouts in the ground. They love to watch them shoot up into the air! TIP—> walk across the street to enjoy tasty treats at the local coffee & ice cream spots!
