La Pensione Hotel
What people are saying
In the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy is this small, beautiful artsy hotel. Our room was clean, small but good since we didn’t spend much time in there. The sheets and towels were crisp and white, pure cleanliness. Staff were helpful and kind. I would definitely return and recommend.
Nice little hotel in a very convenient location. It is located in the heart of Little Italy. Lots of restaurants nearby. On Saturday, there was a special event like the farmer market on the street next to the hotel. To and from downtown is also easy. A trolley station with green or blue line is just 5 min walking distance away. USS Midway is also within walkable distance (10 to 15min). Love the location. The room is clean and not big. No daily room service but it is ok for me. Compared to other hotels downtown, this is definitely an affordable option. The only issue I have was a bit noisy in the evening because of loud live music outside. Overall, it was not too bad.
Stayed here while on spring break and this was one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, always gave great recommendations, the hotel was very clean and the rooms were nice, and the hotel is in the perfect spot. It was just a long enough walk to enjoy the city going to the well known attractions (Midway museum, etc.) but next to many amazing restaurants including multiple delicious Italian restaurants, as it is located in Little Italy. Had a great time in San Diego and this hotel made it all the better. Lastly, if you plan on staying anywhere in San Diego, consider Little Italy, as it isn’t a tourist attraction like in some cities. There is a large Italian influence there and you can experience some of the culture without traveling to Italy, but that was just a highlight for me.
Rooms and bathrooms are dirty, the tv remote is broken, light bulbs are dusty, the sink floods, the rooms are small that almost feels like a cell. The lobby has nothing to offer not even outlets to charge your devices maybe just one outlet. The only nice thing here is the receptionists and the locations. The price is almost like any other luxury hotel so this is not worth it. I checked in for 4 days and ended it up canceling the first night and moved to the Marriott’s.. oh I forgot to mention the room has nothing in it not even a bottle of water. It only has 3 hangers to hang all your clothes, this place is such a joke.
A fantastic location in Little Italy! The room was TINY, with space to step around the bed and not much more. My view was of a wall. The sink outside the WC would have bothered my usual travel companions. The fabulous location steps away from the farmer's market was compromised by the incessant and obnoxious whistles of the traffic wranglers - yet these wranglers are super necessary to see all the booths without getting run over 🤣. I found the bed comfortable, the air conditioner successful, and the shower fabulous! I appreciated the pleasant front desk folks and the mini fridge. I would stay here again as a solo traveler, will try somewhere new if visiting with family or friends.
