The staff didn't explain fees or ask what level of insurance I wanted. The intercity fee for dropping off in Syracuse (about an hour away) less than 24 hours later was almost 4 times the cost of the rental itself. The car still had trash in it from the previous renter. In addition, the engine oil indicator came up during our trip (of less than 24 hours and maybe 70 miles).
The “guaranteed vehicles” are not guaranteed. I reserved a model y several weeks ago, only to be offered a model 3 because the car I reserved was unavailable. It was disappointing as I needed the larger vehicle. Not the biggest deal in the world, but the associate did not seem to care about the issue. Not sure I will use their services in the future.
I was a little skeptical about using this Hertz based on the previous reviews here but the rental process for me was smooth. The lady at the front desk was polite. I returned my rental after hours, filled out my return form and put it along with the keys in the Dropbox and had no problem with the return. My final total of the rental was actually a bit cheaper than my estimated total so that was nice. Based on my experience, I recommend this Hertz.
Absolutely horrible experience. Customer service was terrible and when the car was rented to me it was at a quarter tank of gas. Found they had billed me an additional $170 after having already paid. When called to inquire they told me I had returned it late when in actuality I returned it two days early. Also billed me $9.99 a gallon because I did not fill the tank. I returned it at half a tank which was more than what it had when I received it. Could not get the gas lid to open and the windshield wipers did not work. Had to put in the washer fluid myself. When asked for a refund, I was told it would be 7 to 10 business days of it is approved. The finality of my call with customer service sounds like I am not getting my money back.
Worst company to deal with, I had $1200 of Insurance coverage from an accident. I returned my rental 1/28/21 after 30 days of use. I turned my keys in and the guy didn't have me fill out a return ticket so they took it upon themselves to make my return date 3 days after I returned it and charged my account $173.10 for the 3 days the car sat in their parking lot. After 2 weeks of fighting I got that money back. 30 days later I noticed my checking account was overdrawn and Hertz had taken $300 from my account. When I called to ask why they said it was he remaining balance of the bill that my insurance did not pay. They told me they got the extension authorization from Travelers to increase from $1200 to $1500 and Travelers only paid $1200. Now Hertz will not send me proof to fight Travelers on this. When I call the local branch the manager blames it on Coorporate and Corporate blames it on the branch. When I finally got my Travelers insurance adjuster to 3 way call with myself and a Hertz corporate representative, the Hertz rep could not back his word up and hung up the phone. Save yourself the heartache do not rent from Hertz.
