Fuzzy Friends Rescue
What people are saying
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Our family went to visit a dog that we were interested in adopting, the lady behind the desk made our 14 year old daughter cry, but that’s just the start. We filled out an application in person, same day as visit and we were told it would take 1-3 business days for the application to be reviewed. We were also told no one else made filled out an application for this particular dog. Our daughter was over the moon. We called to check on the status the following days and were told they were really business and no one had reviewed our application (this is 2 business days later). On the third business day we called (it was Friday) and we wanted to know if we needed to make arrangements to pick up the dog that day, we were told someone else had just applied to adopt the same dog! Then we were told a decision would be made by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. It wasn’t until Wednesday (8 days after filling out the application that we were emailed a letter denying us to adopt the dog. Our family was devastated to say the least, this seems to happen a lot from the reviews I have read. We have a 2 acre lot, fenced in area, built in dog door, and a 14 year old daughter and 12 year old son. The dog would have been spoiled to say the least as we are a very active family who spends more time outside and would have loved to share our space with a dog. Update: we called the Killeen dog shelter and were able to adopt a dog the same day with a three day return period in case she doesn’t fit into our family. The facility was so clean and the animals were well taken care of, huge difference from Fuzzy Friends! Killeen adopt fee was only $80 (not over $400) and they gave us a dog bed, dog toys, dog collar, treats, bag of food, wet dog food and dog teeth cleaning kit! Please go look up the Killeen Dog Shelter as they aim to match animals with a forever home and they do a wonderful job! I hope Fuzzy Friends office staff changes hands as I would hate to see a shelter close down!
This place is a joke! People adopt a pet not a project rehabilitation dog. They put a price on a dog for adoption that is 100% unadoptable. Taco, was born there and has lived in a crate there since birth for 18 months and could not adapt to our home for 3 weeks! We could not get him to eat, other than a few treats, we could not get him to potty outside, we could not get him to warm up to us. We have adopted one dog from them before, and he was a puppy, and still doing great at our home. We raised one dog until he was very old and frail and we had to put him down due to Cushings. We are good dog owners, but they treat people like we are supposed to be adopting a pet to rehabilitate them, when they should have been already to be adopted. He was not an adoptable pet. They struggled to give us our money back and we are permanently "black listed" from adopting from them. I turned around and got a wonderful rescue from the Central Texas Human Society. They did me a favor by denying my app.
I’ve worked with half a dozen rescues over the past decade and never had such a terrible experience as with Fuzzy Friends. The staff was uninformed, disrespectful, and clearly had no interest in helping the animals. We called on a Saturday inquiring about a dog we were interested in, and they told us despite being from Austin, TX, we could submit an app for the dog and come on Monday to get the app processed and adopt. We take a day trip to the rescue and immediately they were rude and couldn’t answer our questions. They brought the pup out and let him meet our dog, and from the start we told them we wanted to adopt him. It wasn’t until after we said we were ready to finish the adoption process that suddenly they don’t process apps same day. Then it was that they could process but a board needed to approve. Then it was that he couldn’t be adopted he had to be fostered first because he wasn’t neutered. When we said we would foster, suddenly he can’t be fostered outside of Waco. We offered to sign something promising to get him neutered and even offered to use their vet at our cost. Then it was that he couldn’t be neutered until August. So we asked if we could adopt now and pay and pick him up in August. That wasn’t allowed either. We tried to find any way we could adopt the pup, and it was clear they had no interest in getting him in a good home. Frankly their refusal to work with us despite our offer to do whatever they wanted leads me to believe the all-white, elderly staff was doing whatever they could not to adopt the dog to a person of color. It was a terrible experience. Please do not support this rescue!
the front office staff are so rude and standoffish. it’s like they don’t even want you to adopt. it takes daaaays to hear back about an application and after I visited the cat I wanted multiple days in a row, asked so many questions about them and talked to the staff about how interested I was they still denied me??? the owner has a clear bias to dogs. I would rate this place negative stars if I could.
We had a great experience adopting Jolee(Cookie). Everyone was so nice to work with. We especially enjoyed Sandra, Terry and Betsy!! Y'all are the best. We can tell how much y'all love and care for the doggos by how much they love y'all. Great experience!!
