Eldridge Hotel
What people are saying
Booked a spacious suite for two nights. Lovely accommodation overlooking Massachusetts Street, Lawrence's historic main drag. VERY comfortable bed, separate sleeping and entertainment spaces, 2 TVs, blazing internet. Nicely appointed. Separate bar and restaurant on the first floor, excellent cuisine, reasonably priced. They make a fair Old Fashioned. Well worth availing oneself of valet services at the side entrance. Parking otherwise can be challenging.
This is definitely a hotel to go to for the historical significance it played in Kansas becoming a non slave owning state. It was a headquarters in the political sense to becoming a free state. Pleases go downstairs to the Frosted double doors to see the scale models, political writings, and reconstructions of the hotel after the two burnings and remodels. It isn't to luxury hotel standards, but it is a very nice stay considering the age and history behind its exsistence.
You know, for a fancy restaurant, you'd think the service Is top notch. But no. My wife got us a reservation and when we got there, it took awhile just to get a table. So what's the point in reservations? And when we were seated, it took 10+ minutes just to even get a glass of water. My wife had to flag a waiter down just to seek service. So 30 minutes go by and we're just having a couple drinks and contemplating where else we should have dinner instead. Head down to Jefferson's down the street from eldridge if you want some real service and even better prices!
I have visited before and food and service were good. My latest visit was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Must have caught them on a bad night, poor service and bad food.
Very disappointed with my stay. Front desk staff at check-in was not friendly. No soap or shampoo in the room. Was given these things in a bag to take up to the room during check in. For a hotel that cost what this one does that is so unprofessional. Dining services were not offered that night, despite room service was supposed to be available. Parking is concerning, no parking onsite, no valet due to covid. Closest parking was at the public library which houses a homeless encampment at night. Did not make me feel safe about leaving my vehicle there. Ordered breakfast in the morning, it was so late I had to call to get them to bring it up and my silverware was dirty. Rooms were nice and clean, bed comfortable. If you are staying for the "Haunted" aspect that's fine, if you are looking just a nice place to stay look elsewhere. Will never stay here again.
