DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel LAX - El Segundo
What people are saying
It was a nice, clean hotel. The amenities weren't anything spectacular, but then it was more about location than vacation and they were nice. They had a good sized breakfast bar, although I didn't find anything on it. In the evenings there was fruit infused water when you came into the lobby. They were within walking distance of at least a couple of good restaurants
Quality of the Hilton owned hotels near the airport in general have degraded. I am guessing lack of personnel as I've found cleanliness and maintainence issues in several of them. Hotel is a little dated. My room was poorly vacuumed hair and hair ties on the ground that blended into carpet. Loud AC and poor lighting. Happy there was a working vent above the shower, but it look like there was some starting of mold still. Shower head was had issue gaining back pressure and sputtered. Parking is a better deal than some of the other airport hotels @$27. Early check in fee @$75, but this was waived. Restaurant was decent, though question how clean and well maintained beer taps were. Just needed a place to sleep and do some work for a night before driving to visit some customers, so happy bedding was clean. Plus side with the older AC units is they actually move and cool air rather than the new ones up to CA standards that dont do much and shut off if they don't sense movement.
After a long day, finally found this hotel with high rate and within my price range. Walked in the room, there is a spider web in the corner, I tell the receptionist and they are like we are fully booked, we ask the house keeper to clean up tomorrow. Walking back to room disappointed, right after unpacking my stuff I find a weird spot on the mattress. Guess what’s underneath? A blood stain. So disgusting. Like do you even clean the rooms? This is not acceptable in any way. They immediately gave us another room (turned out they are not that fully booked) but I was just discussed with what I’ve seen. I want to be fair, the hotel looks nice and seems like a new building. It is also in a good distance of airport but honestly for me the hygiene and clean of the hotel is the number one priority. For that reason I give this hotel 1 star.
The room is clean, spacious and quiet. But the service is bad. The front desk had the indifferent face. I’d rather to check in on a machine which can be more friendly. I asked if there is breakfast, and the front desk person didn’t even look up and said your booking does not include breakfast. And that’s it. I can only call the front desk a staff who works here instead of a welcoming face of the hotel.
There were a few things I was disappointed about. Firstly, there was no complimentary coffee in the lobby. The pocket door to the bathroom was broken and very challenging to open and close. My family and I were wanting to use the jacuzzi the night we arrived but we were told it was broken. We also wanted to sit around the outdoor fireplace that is shown on the website. Unfortunately we found that the area where the fireplace is supposed to be was in disarray and the fireplace was nowhere to be found. It just seems there was a general unpreparedness with the staff the whole staff. They really didn't seem to give a crap. Price was ok but not sure we'll stay here again.
