We rented Dollar through an Expedia trip package and just wanted to share that the experience was purely electronic and painless. Received email to confirm driver license and credit card, a day before pickup and another email for confirming the car before time to pickup car - they do give you options to upgrade the car at this point but I didn’t upgrade and I was charged for a deposit to my credit card without any other charges. Once confirmed I was given the parking space where the car was located. The only human interaction was checking out from the garage. It was a pretty smooth pickup experience. I am knocking down the review one star because the front hood wasn’t properly latched upon pickup and didn’t realize the issue until the car kept giving me a warning signal at highway speed. Good thing the short trip to terminal 1 didn’t result in an incident. A quick press of the hood fixed the issue. A bit careless and a safety issue.
I booked the car through a third party, Carla, and Dollar didn't charge anything additional upon pickup. Picking up the car was fine. it only took 10-15 minutes to do the paperwork. The queue wait time was 15-20 minutes (Saturday morning @ 10 am). Returning it was faster. We just had to park it and leave the keys inside. A $200 deposit was charged for a day's rental of Subaru Ascent, and after drop off, the deposit was returned immediately. The car was relatively new and clean.
Reserved and prepaid for my rental car and did the online check in. Even after waiting for the online checking process to allow me to get a car, there was still not one available 30 minutes after my reservation pickup time. When I went to the front desk, they said that they did not have cars available as they were being cleaned and they were not able to clean them fast enough to distribute them to their customers. I ended up on a waitlist with 15 people ahead of me. With two young children with me and at 10:00 at night, my wife and I had to make decision to pay for an Uber ride to our family's house approximately 30 minutes away. I have no idea if I'll be able to get a refund but as this type of situation was extremely unfortunate. It's hard to believe that a national rental car company doesn't know when the peak times for rentals are, especially at O'Hare International airport.
Update: talking for two days now with the 'customer service' (or chatbot, I really don't know). I already paid 1.270 USD, and now they charged another 1.790 USD on my card, and they are unable (or incompetent) to remove this reservation/charge. I clearly indicated my travel (for 20 days!) was going to Kansas and Minnesota. I only was in Chicago upon arrival and leaving. I clearly asked if I needed a toll pass for the entire travel (which costs 12 dollar per day), the answer was 'yes'. I didn't notice any toll road in the states outside of Illinois, upon my return I asked again if it was necessary to take that pass, and the answer was still 'yes'. Now I am at home and I see that there is no toll pass in any other state where I was! With the result that I paid more than 200(!!!) dollar for NOTHING! On top of that I now noticed that they made a second reservation on my car of 1.250 dollars through Hertz, while I already paid the full amount 1 day earlier! Will they really charge a double amount???? Curious if I will get a refund? If so, I will change the rating to a 5. If not, I can only recommend not to hire a car with them. Never had a problem with the competition. Answer from customer service: you signed the policy, so you agreed to the terms. Translation: don't trust our customer service, they can tell you what they want!
Reservation car pick up went smooth, didn’t see any line, the whole process took me 10 min, the ladies on desk was sweet, I was booked manager special ev class c6 and got e7 which is 2023 Tesla model 3. The lady on car pick up offer me training which is I declined, the car actually was on reserved place and it was from Hertz. Car wasn’t clean inside and outside but it was okay. Overall great experience from me
