Dollar Car Rental - Fort Lauderdale International Airport
What people are saying
We had the car reserved before we landed in Ft. Lauderdale but had to wait in line for almost 2 hours. After we finally get the car we are leaving the airport and they send us back to the office after we done had the car leaving said our card was denied. We go back and we call the credit card company and they charged us 7 times and kicked the card up. While working on getting things fixed my family is setting in the car and they try to give it to someone else. 3 hours later the manager finally writes a HAND WRITTEN agreement. We finally leave the airport after 5 hours. We drive a hour and have to pull over because the won’t wheel brakes are locking up from previous rental. Had to call them and asked for another but they wanted me to put my family and luggage out in a parking lot and wait for a lift driver to pick me up to go get another vehicle. So we drive 10 min park and wait on a Lyft driver to take us a hour away to get another car. My first day 8 hours of vacation was dealing with this car! No refund no discount no nothing. They sent a tow truck to pick up the car but didn’t show up. I called next day and they said it was complete but it was still setting there. Had to wait with it another hour for it to be towed. They got their money I lost day of vacation
[AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST] I had fully paid $150 for my car rental at the time of reservation. However, upon arriving at the pick-up location, I was informed by the lady at the counter that no cars were available. She then mentioned that I could get a car immediately if I paid an additional amount, bringing the total to $160. I agreed, believing it was just a $10 extra charge. To my dismay, I later found out that I was charged an additional $160 on top of the original $150 payment, totaling $310. This is a significant overcharge, and I feel that this was a clear mistake and possibly a deceptive practice. Additionally, I was told that if I did not agree to the extra charge, I would have to wait 8 hours longer for a car, even though I had a reservation for that specific time. This delay was unacceptable and added to the inconvenience and frustration. Furthermore, the car I was given was not in good condition at all. The windshield was defective, and the rear windshield wiper was not functioning, which was particularly dangerous given the heavy rain and storm conditions in Florida at the time. This compromised my safety and the safety of others on the road.
My flight was quicker than the line to get my rental car here, took almost 2 hours, so disorganized. They are also complete scammers, charged me for loss damage waiver when I explicitly denied all coverage, the attendant made zero mentions of any additional charges. Avoid these scammers at all cost
the agent insisted in keeping my license and wouldn't give it back until the transaction was completed. At the end of the transaction, I didn't get my license back and then it ended up in the lost and found. Now you all want me to pay $37 to get back my own license after I asked for it backed during the transaction?!?? This was a one way rental so its not like I can just go and pick it up. Additionally, who knows how many people have seen handled my license and now its a major privacy breach. I cannot get anyone on the phone to discuss this as all roads on the phone number lead to automated recordings. I will never rent dollar/thrifty again. Additionally the hertz response below even wasted my time further by chatting with me on messenger all day long, asking inane questions. Furthermore, they started calling my phone constantly to connect me to an automated voicemail. And the issue was never resolved!
Just got charged $250 for a smoking fee... the problem is nobody in my family smokes, unless my 9 or 11 year old daughters aren't telling me something. My bill said I agreed to this charge but I signed nothing. Waiting to hear back from corporate because it's impossible to get a hold of anybody through phone. Their system is setup this way. I'm wondering if it's some kind of plot where they do this to a bunch of customers hoping that some of these charges are overlooked. Would love to know if this has happened to anyone else. Sad thing is the rest of my experience with them was extremely smooth. **charges were refunded after contacting them through Facebook. Their social media person was extremely helpful and was able to take care of this situation almost immediately. I hate to have to go to social media like this but felt it was my only option to be heard.
