Well-equipped and maintained playground with plenty of greenery. The neighbors are friendly, and it has a small-town feel despite the Upper West Side’s population density. If local lore is correct, the playground is named after the famed singer who used to live around here.

After exploring the history of Seneca Village which was the name of the mainly black owned property which was turned into Central park I was intrigued to find the "Diana Ross" playground. I thought there has to be a link the famous African American singer who recently performed for King Charles III in the UK. And so it is Miss Ross Donated funds for the park after her historic concert on the Great Lawn in 1983. To be fair, there are no toilets nearby, or even a drinking fountain. But its quiet peaceful dignity points to the history of the displaced people, who lived there peacefully before they were removed.

Cute little playground for kids all ages. Right in the middle there are several interconnected wooden climbing structures, all built over sand. There are some sprinklers on the north and a few swings on the east. All the sand is nice, but I prefer the soft material newer playgrounds use. Sand always feels less hygienic. Also, I would like to see soft ground on the outside of the very large sanded area. My kid likes to go barefooted on the sand, but then ends up running barefooted on hard asphalt. There are no restrooms. There is plenty of shade. It is a nice playground, nothing to special. I would not travel to get here, but I would be happy if this was my neighbourhood's playground.

This playground could use an update. There are only baby swings, so my bigger kiddo didn’t have a swing option. A few of the play features aren’t usable anymore. There is a lot of pavement which could be good for scooters and bikes. There is a lot of nice mature trees for shade and plenty of benches.
