Where do I start with just how heinous the service is at the Houston Airport Avis rental desk. After waiting approximately 90 minutes with two kids (one in a wheelchair) and luggage in tow, I had the misfortune of being ‘served’ by ‘Miss Jackie’. After enduring her unenthusiastic and monosyllabic interrogation, she inexplicably left the counter and stood further away occasionally talking into a walkie talkie. After waiting for about 15 minutes, I went over to Jackie and asked if everything was okay, to which she mumbled about something about finding our car. You know, the one we had reserved and paid for weeks ago, online. Jackie finally causally made her a way back to the counter to process our deposit - that’s when things got even worse. We were traveling from overseas with a Visa travel money card and for some reason, the Avis machine was struggling to recognize it and it was coming back as declined. I assured Jackie there were plenty of funds on the card but she basically said ‘Too bad, no car. I’ve tried the card twice’. Bear in mind we had just traveled from LA with all our luggage into Houston for surgery for our son with a disability, and we were an hour away from our hotel beside the hospital in League City and it was approximately 8.30pm. The prospect of no hire was obviously devastating. So I called my bank in Australia and asked them to add more funds to the card, just to be sure and explained to Jackie that the card should be fine. After pleading with her to try a third time she reluctantly agreed to try but said if it didn’t work, that the conversation was over and we had to walk away. It was at this point my husband explained that was not good enough. That was the moment Jackie literally threw her hands in the air and said something like ‘I ain’t doin’ this! I’m going on my break’ and she literally stormed out to the break room leaving us stranded at the counter. About 5 minutes later, her equally unimpressive colleague, Edgar appeared from the break room and clearly fueled by Jackie’s tantrum proceeded to tell us ‘He was the bearer of bad news and that if the card didn’t work this time, no car and no further questions from us!’ and when we dared ask him ‘But what about the $4,500 of ours you have?!’ he accused us of being ‘aggressive’. Edgar proceeded to try and process our payment but was clearly incapable and thankfully another Avis team member appeared and was able to process it without a single issue. My advice? if you do book through Avis (don’t) and you’re in that line and Miss Jackie hollers ‘next’ in your direction, let the person behind you go in front.
Customer service agent was great, knowledgeable and helpful. Car did have a few scratches but was very clean and drove well.
Of the more than 10 car rental facilities I've been to in 2019, this is by far the best for on time performance of the airport shuttles. It is very clean and great customer service.
Fun and easy way to return your car rental. What a breeze and airport shuttle was good.
After my car was broken into Trae Clavo and his team, Teresa, Britt, DJ, Maylay, and Jordan were awesome! They took care of all the paperwork and swamped the vehicle for the same type.
