Budget Car Rental
What people are saying
The Jeep Grand Cherokee that we were given in Boston didn’t accelerate past 25-40 mph. We took the nearest exit from the airport and ended up in downtown Boston. To get out of traffic we had to park in a ramp while we waited for the tow truck to get the car and return us to airport rental office. We incurred a $43 parking charge and lost a half day. We requested a refund of the parking charges and a discount on the rental and have received nether. No one bothered to answer my detailed email or phone calls. Lesson learned—no more Budget rentals for my family.
I wish I would have read other customer reviews OR explored other options. Landed at 11 pm. Waited for 48 minutes for the shuttle. Then another line for the counter (2! Employees), and another line to get the car. (Meanwhile, the 4 employees at the National/Enterprise counter just chatting and joking - no line!) 3 hours to get a car! Our wait for the rental car was almost as long as our cross-country flight. DO NOT rent from Budget, Avis, or Payless at Logan Int’l unless you have 4 hours to kill! 😤
If it was possible to give negative stars then I would. To begin, I was given an EV which I did not request and no one told me about. I had only rented the car for 24 hours for a funeral and had to spend 2 hours charging the vehicle away from my family only to STILL be charged a “fuel fee”. The car also had multiple scratches which no one assisted me with documenting. Further, I was charged double the cost of the actual rental in mystery fees which remain unclear. You are also charged for an ez-pass transponder despite the fact that Massachusetts only uses these and paying cash at the tolls is no longer possible. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WORK WITH BUDGET.
I reserved a car from Budget because it is a "famous" brand, despite its bad reviews. I arrived at the airport rental office in the morning. There was only one person working, and at least 30 people in the queue, which meant a wait time of at least 1 hour. I had an urgent meeting, so I left. Later, I returned to the airport for the car rental. This time, there were three people working, but the queue was even longer. Unlike other "less famous" rental companies, Budget didn't have kiosks, which made the process automatic and quick. It was a terrible customer service experience. I wouldn’t recommend it at all
Do not rent an electric vehicle. I repeat: DO NOT RENT AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE. I was not given a choice, they only had EVs. The majority of chargers in Boston are 6kW, which, if you’re unfamiliar, means glacially slow. I’m at an air bnb so no chargers at my location. This means i have to spend literal hours in random parking lots waiting for a charge. This is not how i want to spend my time. I tried calling to see if i could swap out but i could not. Also: i received this car with less than a 60% charge. Also also, one of the charging stations was SO BAD that my charge level went DOWN.
