Avera Pharmacy - Aberdeen - State Street
What people are saying
This pharmacy has been cold, uncaring, unhelpful and it doesn’t matter at all to them that I have been a faithful customer for more than two decades. I was horribly disrespected in front of other customers and it was their mistake. I was made to feel less than and they wield their position as if they are better than me. They do not know my medical history. Also, they have no care whether the medicine reaches me in a timely manner and many times they would say they would fill something and then not do it. Once I had to call four times and talk to multiple people before I was helped. Even if I sent in a prescription electronically in the AM, I would still often have to wait for over an half hour after work. It’s just too much and I have finally taken my business elsewhere. It is unfortunate that an entity has so much power a person has no recourse but to leave. I don’t think they even care about the $2000+ they will lose every month, but I would think the owners would.
Lots of great staff but they take forever to fill your scripts. And good location right by Kessler's and avera hospital.
All of State Street Pharmacy employees are so helpful and professional. I love the friendly, home town rapport they have with their patients.
When I picked up a medicine dispenser seven months ago, the counter person did not know how to use it. The device has a bigger cap to unscrew and a smaller secondary cap on top of the bigger one. I was told to take off the big cap and scoop the medicine out any way I could. For seven months, I did it this way three times a day as directed, and I admit it was a bit cumbersome retrieving the stiff medicine with my finger. Also unhygienic as I had to put my entire finger in the bottle to retrieve it. On my 3rd refill, I was finally told the correct way to use this dispenser, which was to keep the big cap on and only unscrew the little cap. It then has a plunger I'm supposed to press at the bottom, dispensing the medicine out the top of the small opening. Wow, this made such a difference and saved me so much time. Doing this three times a day 24/7 was quite tiring until a clerk finally knew how to operate this dispenser. I'm very disappointed with the lack of knowledge this pharmacy has. It's not my main pharmacy; they don't have this medicine at any other pharmacy, so I was stuck. I will never use this pharmacy for anything ever again.
I have taken my cat Molly's prescriptions there for years. They are able to compound animals medications which makes it easier to give to an animal, especially a cat. The staff is very helpful, friendly, patient, empathetic and make sure you understand the directions explicitly. The manager is awesome! He is very knowledgeable and will go the extra mile to help you. He is also patient, kind and empathetic. Recently, I had a prescription for Molly waiting to be picked up, sadly she passed before I could pick up the meds. I called and was told, no problem, you need not pick it up or pay for it. We will take care of it. What a relief. A few days later, I received a wonderful sympathy card expressly for a cat signed by the entire staff. What an unexpected act of kindness. By the way, humans are treated the same way :)
