Not perfect, but we will likely be back. I can tell a lot of planning goes into the atmosphere and menu here. The good: the pancakes, eggs, biscuits, and coffee were solid. I am a coffee enthusiast and I was happy. The bad: the gravy was the worst I have ever had. I grew up in the South and have had gravy from dozens of places. The stuff they serve here shouldn’t be called gravy. It was so thick my wife took one bite and almost decided to not eat breakfast until I told her to just ask for something else. The potatoes came with onions and peppers that were closer to raw than cooked (maybe that was intended?). Overall: I will likely be back because the stuff they got right was good. I appreciate the local sourcing of ingredients, the atmosphere, and the attentive friendly wait staff. The staff were wonderful.

Overall this place was wonderful. I didn’t get a picture of the Hummus plate but it was delicious. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d like it because the hummus is gritty instead of smooth and creamy. However, the flavor more than makes up for the texture. I enjoyed the marinated tomato’s on top of it. The hummus is on a bed of greens and that was a pleasant addition. I ordered the Salmon with Lavender-Honey Drizzle. I enjoyed it. I replaced the polenta with potatoes. The potatoes were delicious. The salmon is sustainable. I mostly get wild caught. This salmon was tender and the glaze was tasty. The broccoli is steamed. It’s not seasoned but it was bright and green. I’m mostly plant based so I look forward to return so I can try the other options.

The food here was DELICIOUS! Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options for those with that dietary restriction. I got the veggie scrambler with tofu instead of eggs, and it was so flavorful! We were disappointed in our service. Our waitress was very unwelcoming and barely stopped by our table - not stopping by to fill up waters and coffee. This is the only reason i'm not giving them a 5 star review. Although other reviews do lead me to believe this is not the normal service experience.

The food was good and service was as well. Prices are a little high, probably because captive audience with this being one of two breakfast spots in Yellow Springs.

Update 5/5/24: Still 5/5! This place is still just as amazing as the last time we came here! One note on the vegan patties, they're good, but they're not like a sausage patty or ground patty, much more of a "18 whole grains," type of texture to it. Quick Ratings: - Huevos Rancheros: A solid start to the day. - Signature Pancake: Fluffy perfection. - Chocolate French Toast: Sweet tooth's dream. - Biscuits and Gravy: Hearty and satisfying. Sunrise has got a real knack for dishing out comfort on a plate. Their breakfast spread hit the spot with its straight-up good eats. First up, the Huevos Rancheros. It's a no-fuss plate: a crisp-edged egg, a heap of savory black beans, and roast potatoes that crackle just right. Spoon on some zesty salsa, a blob of sour cream, and you've got a plate that packs a punch. Their Signature Pancake is a fluffy, crispy-edged wonder. It's big, it's buttery, and it does exactly what you hope a pancake will do – fill you up and make you happy without a lot of fuss. The Chocolate French Toast is for those who like breakfast with a side of dessert. It's rich, but not too heavy, and that powdered sugar on top? Just the right amount of sweet. And you can't skip the Biscuits and Gravy. It's a stick-to-your-ribs kind of dish, with soft biscuits drowning in thick, peppery gravy. It's down-home cooking done right. Each dish at Sunrise Café comes out like it's made by someone who gets why breakfast matters. It's the kind of place that'll have you planning your next visit before you've even left. Sunrise Café is doing breakfast right – simple, tasty, and just plain good.
