Railfan Guide: First of all, i was a visitor from Washington when i went. The station there is very nice and i believe is a historical site, They had a ho scale (working model train) set inside, good for kids, and a friendly employee. The river runner stops there daily, and union pacific has a main there. there are a couple tracks that i believe are sidings and storage tracks. when freight trains come through, they crawl to a stop. i DON'T know if it's a crew switch point or what, or it was related to the recent construction on the line. otherwise a great place.

This was my first time ever riding a train. I was excited to finally get the chance. This location does not have a building, so everyone was sitting in the heat and wasps. Riders were told by a volunteer that they haven't had anyone working there since 2013! The train was delayed 7 different times causing us to wait an extra hour in the heat. There was a parking lot, yet you had to have the volunteer let you in the space. I don't think I will leave out from Jefferson city again.

Nice place to catch train. Street parking is fine. Save passenger rail!

Less of a complaint with the station, more with the route and how delays are handled. The route from here to KC is under some renovations, this causes any meeting with an opposing train to be 2 hour ordeal. I wish I was joking, but as of writing this review I'm looking at an overall 4 hour delay (2 hours waiting for the train to arrive, 2 hours somewhere in the middle of nowhere) with no end in sight. Inexcusable. And yes. I'm ranting about this during the delay because ive slowly grown tired of waiting and wanted to put my emotions out there. Explanations are vague, no estimates are given. It's quite literally, "hey there's a freighter were gunna let pass" and nothing else. Passengers are growing annoyed, the guy behind me missed a meet-up with old highschool buddies, and at this point I think the food cart is going to run out of alcohol for the chatty group in my cart. It is 10:30. The lights have not been dimmed, I've counted 5 more beers to the back, and I realized that I forgot my headphones at home. Until this routes construction is finished, do NOT, use this route. It isn't worth it. I know it isn't the staffs fault entirely but I'm going to leave this here so somebody might get the message that this route is as good riding a bike to your destination, except on this train you're trapped with 8 noisy drunks, bright florescent lights, and don't get a good workout.
