We booked at the Star Motel based on other reviews. I viewed rooms which were clean and orderly. We entered Room 8 and it was spotless. We unloaded the car which is parked right outside our door. It started raining and I as you can see just put everything on the desk. Lee the owner will have coffee ready at 7:00am in the office lobby area. So the only downside to the room is no coffee machine or microwave. Microwave also available in the office lobby area a two minute walk from room. No biggie. People complain about furnishings being outdated. Yes they are but in good usable shape. I’ve been in new hotels with cheap furniture that looked cheap. Windows open to a big grassy area behind the hotel, and it’s a nice walk down to the Boardwalk. Lee was very nice to speak with when I booked and in person. So I highly recommend the Star Motel. Family started and continues to operate it. No big chain and none of those costs. Bring your own coffee maker, the a nice size fridge in the room. Beds are firm but not hard. And again CLEAN. I’ll definitely be staying here again. Support Local, small and family owned. June 29, 2024.

Great little family-run motel on the lakeshore--walk out the back of the motel to Lake Michigan. Rooms were very clean, beds comfortable, lots of light from the windows. dogs welcome. The owner, Leo, is kind. We reserved by phone and Leo had our keys and room # in the office so we could check ourselves in. We will be back!!!!! We loved it.

I am both touched and impressed by the owner of this motel. I was already going to leave a review because of how spacious and clean the room we stayed in was, but I have to say how kind the owner is as well. We stayed there two nights ago with our dog. I booked about 2 hours in advance of us arriving, and the room we were given impressed me. The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious and really clean, and the windows opened to a really nice breeze coming off the lake. We walked to the back of the motel through some trees and were on the lake, completely by ourselves. We walked our dog along the beach for a good while, and it was so peaceful. When we packed up and left, I didn't realize I had left my glasses until the next night and I wasn't sure I had left them there. I called the owner to see if he had seen them, and he had them! He offered to send them to me, took down my address, and said he would send them first thing tomorrow. He didn't ask for any compensation. You can tell when someone is just a good person, and he is. I'm sorry I don't remember your name, but thank you Mr. Star Motel Owner for being as kind and caring as you are. We need more people like you.

First time to U.P. of Michigan and had a restful night for this weary traveler. Quiet, very reasonable price and friendly staff. Check out the lake view out back. 5 🌟
